The AMARA table at a glance

You set it up at a client’s home, you fold it away, you carry it back to the car. Then you do it all again the next day. A folding table is judged on those repeated movements first, long before it is judged on a spec sheet.

The AMARA weighs 14.9 kg on its own and 17 kg with its accessories, and it takes a working capacity of 204 kg. The frame is European beech. At Nandara, this is the model we recommend to practitioners who travel a lot and do not want to choose between light weight and strength.

What those figures change for you

76 cm wide, so you are not working off balance

The table top is 76 cm wide. That is the comfortable width for a broad adult, the one that stops an arm hanging off the side for the whole session. On a narrower top you spend the session repositioning your client. On this one, they settle in and you stop thinking about it.

The padding is 6.35 cm thick, multi-layer foam, with rounded edges. Thickness matters most for a client lying face down for an hour, and for bony areas, hips and knees.

From 60.5 to 86 cm, for your back

The table adjusts over 25.5 cm. That covers seated work, standing work leaning in, and body-weight work, which calls for a low table. Set it to your height and to the technique, not once and for all.

It is the most neglected adjustment, and it is the one that decides the state of your back in ten years.

14.9 kg, and a carry bag

Lighter wooden tables exist, but they pay for it in strength. At 14.9 kg the AMARA still carries one-handed over a few dozen metres, stairs included. Count 17 kg with the headrest, cushion and armrest. The carry bag comes with the table, and it protects the corners, which are the first thing to suffer in a car boot.

If you work only from a treatment room and never fold your table away, look at fixed tables instead: for the same footprint they give you more stability at the same budget.

204 kg working capacity

Working capacity is not the weight the table holds at rest: it is the weight it takes while you work on it, your own pressure on top of your client’s. 204 kg means you can put your weight through a broad client without a second thought.

The legs have a double lock. That is the detail that prevents an unwanted fold, and it is the first thing to check every time you set up.

Shiatsu release cables and Reiki panels

The cables detach, which lets you put the table on the floor with the legs folded and work Shiatsu at tatami height. Both ends take the headrest, and the Reiki panels leave room for your knees when you work seated at the end of the table.

Few practitioners use all three in their first year. They count on the day you add a technique to your practice, without having to buy another table.

AMARA or AMARA SUPREME

Both models share the same beech frame and the same 76 cm width. The difference is the backrest.

A lift-up backrest is for facial treatments, semi-seated work and pregnant clients. If you do beauty treatments or seated back work, it is worth the 30 EUR difference: have a look at the AMARA SUPREME table. If you work flat, the AMARA is enough.

Care

The polyurethane upholstery wipes clean with a soft disinfectant between clients. It stands up to massage oils, but wipe off splashes the same day: it is as they dry that they leave a mark.

Check the bolts every two or three months if you carry the table every week. A bolt working loose takes thirty seconds to tighten, a warped leg does not come back.

Three colours

Beige, bordeaux and chocolate. Beige opens up a small room visually and shows oil marks more. Chocolate and bordeaux forgive them better, and age well in a treatment room. That is the one criterion that really counts over time. The rest is a matter of taste, and of what suits your room.
